Compassionate Care Starts with Knowledge: Skyline Home Care Services Partners with Princess Alice Hospice for End-of-Life Care Training

At Skyline Home Care Services, we believe that exceptional care begins with exceptional training. As a trusted care provider, we are proud to announce that our team is receiving specialised in-house training in End-of-Life Care, delivered by the expert educators from Princess Alice Hospice.

Elevating Standards Through Partnership

End of life care is one of the most sensitive and vital aspects of home care. It requires not only clinical competence but deep compassion, emotional intelligence, and respect for individual dignity. That’s why we’ve partnered with Princess Alice Hospice, a leading name in palliative care education, to deliver comprehensive training to our carers directly at Skyline.

Princess Alice Hospice brings decades of experience supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families. Their training empowers our team with practical knowledge, emotional insight, and the confidence to provide care that is respectful, comforting, and person-centred.

What the Training Includes

The End-of-Life Care training program is designed to ensure that our carers can:

  • Understand the principles and philosophy of palliative care
  • Recognise the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of clients at the end of life
  • Communicate sensitively and effectively with clients and families
  • Manage pain and other symptoms with comfort and dignity in mind
  • Support family members and caregivers throughout the journey
  • Understand cultural and individual differences in end-of-life experiences

This training is not a one-time event—it is part of our ongoing professional development commitment. By hosting it in-house, we create a supportive and familiar environment where our care team can learn, reflect, and grow together.

Why This Matters

Providing end of life care in a client’s home is a profound responsibility. Families trust us not only with the physical well-being of their loved ones, but with the emotional and psychological support that makes the final stage of life meaningful and dignified.

With this training, our carers are better equipped to:

  • Alleviate distress during difficult moments
  • Offer holistic support that considers the whole person
  • Guide families through unfamiliar territory with compassion and clarity

Our Commitment to Excellence

Skyline Home Care Services is more than a care provider, we are a community built on empathy, respect, and professional integrity. By investing in partnerships like the one with Princess Alice Hospice, we ensure our care standards remain high.

Whether supporting clients during recovery or through life’s final stages, we remain committed to providing care that is thoughtful, skilled, and deeply human.

Providers Unite rally

Providers Unite rally

On February 25, 2025, Skyline Home Care Services proudly stood alongside thousands of care professionals, providers, and advocates at the #ProvidersUnite Day of Action in Westminster. This unprecedented gathering was a powerful demonstration of unity, resilience, and determination to safeguard the future of adult social care in the UK.

Why We Marched

The rally was organised in response to the Autumn 2024 Budget, which introduced significant financial pressures on the care sector. Key concerns included:

  • A 6.7% increase in the National Living Wage, raising it to £12.21 per hour for workers aged over 21.
  • An increase in employer National Insurance contributions from 13.8% to 15%.
  • A reduction in the earnings threshold for these contributions from £9,100 to £5,000.

These changes are projected to cost independent care providers in England an additional £2.8 billion in 2025-26, with staffing costs already accounting for over 70% of total expenses.

Skyline Home Care Services joined the rally to voice our concerns about the sustainability of care services under these financial strains. We believe that without adequate funding and support, the quality and availability of care for our most vulnerable citizens are at risk.

A Day of Unity and Advocacy

The day began at Church House in Dean’s Yard, where over 3,600 participants gathered. The peaceful march proceeded to Parliament Square Gardens, creating a vibrant display of solidarity. Attendees carried banners with messages like “We Value Social Care” and “Who Cares?” to highlight the essential role of care workers.

Skyline Home Care Services staff engaged with fellow providers, shared experiences, and discussed strategies to advocate for the sector. We also participated in meetings with MPs to emphasise the urgent need for policy changes that support sustainable care services.

Our Commitment to Quality Care

At Skyline Home Care Services, we are dedicated to providing high-quality, person-centred care that allows individuals to live comfortably and safely in their own homes. Our services include companionship, home help, personal care, and specialised support for conditions like dementia.

We believe that care providers must be adequately supported to continue delivering these essential services. The challenges highlighted during the #ProvidersUnite rally underscore the importance of government action to ensure the sustainability of the care sector.

Looking Ahead

The #ProvidersUnite Day of Action was a significant step in advocating for the future of social care. Skyline Home Care Services remains committed to working with fellow providers, policymakers, and the community to secure the necessary support and funding for our sector.

We urge everyone to recognize the vital role of care services and to join us in advocating for a system that values and supports both care Service Users and providers.

Surrey Care Association Awards Ceremony

Surrey Care Association Awards Ceremony

A Night to Remember: Skyline Home Care Attends the Surrey Care Association Awards

We’re delighted to share an exciting milestone for Skyline Home Care—our very first time attending the Surrey Care Association Awards! This annual event is a cornerstone of the local care community, celebrating excellence, dedication, and innovation across Surrey’s adult social care sector. Being part of it was an incredible honour and a truly unforgettable experience.

A Celebration of Care Across Surrey

Held at the stunning Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, the evening brought together care professionals from all corners of Surrey to recognise the outstanding work being done every day. From compassionate care assistants and managers to forward-thinking service providers, the awards showcased the best of what social care has to offer.

As first-time attendees, Skyline Home Care was proud to stand among such dedicated and passionate individuals. It was more than an event—it was a celebration of the values we hold dear: empathy, respect, and the power of person-centred care.

Recognising the Unsung Heroes

Throughout the evening, we heard powerful stories of perseverance, innovation, and kindness. Each nominee had a unique journey, yet all shared a common goal—to provide exceptional care that enhances the lives of those they support.

While we were there to cheer on our peers, we found ourselves deeply inspired by their commitment and heart. Their stories reminded us that even the smallest acts of care can make a world of difference.

A Proud Moment for Skyline Home Care

Although we weren’t nominated this year, just being there as part of the Surrey care community filled us with pride. Our team has worked tirelessly to build a service rooted in compassion and quality—and attending this event felt like a moment of recognition.

Seeing others be acknowledged for their incredible work only reaffirmed our drive. It was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do every day: to bring dignity, independence, and joy to those we care for.

Looking Ahead with Purpose

As we reflect on this experience, we feel more energised than ever to continue raising the bar in home care. The Surrey Care Association Awards have shown us the importance of celebrating our industry’s unsung heroes and the incredible impact of collaboration and community.

To the organisers, nominees, and winners—thank you for an inspiring evening. And to our amazing team at Skyline Home Care—thank you for your unwavering dedication and compassion. We’re already looking forward to next year’s awards and hope to return not just as attendees, but as proud nominees.

Here’s to raising the bar in care—together.

Empowering Our Carers: In-House PEG Feed Training Success

Empowering Our Carers: In-House PEG Feed Training Success

At Skyline we believe that exceptional care begins with exceptional training.  We were proud to host an in-house training session focused on Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) feeding—a vital skill for many of our dedicated carers supporting clients with complex nutritional needs.

What is PEG Feeding?

PEG feeding is a method of delivering nutrition directly into the stomach through a tube inserted via the abdominal wall. It’s often used for individuals who are unable to eat or swallow safely due to various medical conditions. While it may sound clinical, PEG feeding is an essential part of maintaining dignity, comfort, and quality of life for some of the people we care for.

Why This Training Matters

For carers, confidence and competence in administering PEG feeds can make a significant difference in the lives of those they support. Our in-house session aimed not only to equip them with the technical skills required, but also to deepen their understanding of the emotional and practical aspects of PEG care.

Led by an experienced clinical nurse trainer, the course covered:

  • Anatomy and physiology related to PEG feeding
  • Setting up and maintaining feeding equipment
  • Hygiene and infection control protocols
  • Troubleshooting common issues
  • Monitoring, documentation, and reporting
  • Compassionate communication with Service Users and families

A Hands-On Learning Experience

The session was interactive and hands-on, allowing carers to practice procedures in a controlled, supportive environment. From handling equipment to simulating feed administration, the session gave everyone the chance to ask questions and build their confidence step by step.

Feedback from Our Carers

The response from attendees was overwhelmingly positive. One carer shared,

“The training helped take away the fear I had around PEG feeding. I now feel prepared and supported to provide this type of care with confidence.”

Another added,

“It’s great that Skyline invests in practical training like this. It shows they really care about both clients and carers.”

Looking Ahead

This PEG feed training is part of our ongoing commitment to continuous professional development. We know that knowledge is power and when our carers are empowered, our Service Users benefit.
